We're Off To See the Wizard

I'm way behind on blogging about our journey to the wonderful world of Oz. The boys and I have been practicing since late May, and there were two weeks of performances at the end of July. We did eight shows, which was a lot, but we really enjoyed it. The boys were munchkins in the lollipop guild and flying monkeys. I was in the adult chorus, so I was a singing tree, a poppy, a jitterbug and a resident of Oz. Tony ran the lights for the show, so it became a family affair. Here are some of my favorite pictures in no particular order:
My munchkins

Look HGS, I'm a poppy!

Seeing green? My friends from Oz

Sophie is convinced that she's Dorothy. She can sing every line of most of the songs, but that's a video post for another day.

My only pictures of the monkey costumes. They also had headgear and makeup.

I'm the tree on the right. I had some particularly "punny" lines - groaners, if you will.

The Emerald city is in sight! I'm the second poppy from the left, front row.

Sophie's not too sure about my green hair - but it brings out my blue eyes!

I'm a little biased, but the show was phenomenal. The leads were all super talented, our set was great, and we had awesome special effect - strobes, fog, fire - you name it.

"Oz" was performed at Providence since the Y doesn't have a theater. Tony and I loved the opportunity to work on a show together at Providence. When I was a freshman, Tony and I were both in Gypsy there - it's sort of how we really became friends. He started a tradition of waltzing with me before every show, and it continued until my senior year. Twice during the Wizard of Oz, Tony and I snuck off into the old gym before the show started and revived the tradition for good luck. I even got Andrew to waltz with me a couple times.

We had so much fun doing the show together as a family, and Aidan and I loved working with all our friends from last summer. Besides practices, we spent two straight weeks with everyone between tech rehearsals and performances. Thank goodness for Facebook, because we miss them so much! We're already looking forward to next summer's production of "Seussical"!
