A Miraculous Weekend

On Friday night, the weather forecast was terrible.  Cold front, severe thunderstorms, etc.  All the local high school football games moved their start times earlier in hopes of getting the games in before the storm hit.  At Providence, it was Deanery night for the local grade school teams, as well as the traveling promotional tour from the Indianapolis Colts.

Sophie was not impressed by the Colts display.  Her favorite part of the football game was sitting on the bench.

Andrew and his friends apparently don't get enough football during the week.  Instead of watching the game, they played a game of two-hand touch.

Aidan, of course, entertained the girls.
Sohpie was all about watching the boys from St. A take the field.
That's Andrew in front - a blur, of course.
There he is, on his way off the field after being introduced.
Sophie, Aidan and I left after halftime because I didn't really want to get rained on.  Miraculously, the storms held off until after the game.  Even then, they weren't as bad as predicted.

Saturday morning, Aidan had his first soccer game of the season.  Their jerseys didn't come in on time, so they had to wear practice jerseys.

He had a good time and played hard, even if I don't exactly understand the game.  We went to Chick Fil A to celebrate his first game, and then spent a quiet evening at home for a change.

This morning, we had plans to go to noon Mass.  Taking advantage, we slept late and ate a big brunch.  Andrews's task was to take the dog out to her dog run.  This is as far as he got.  It was a complete standoff for the better part of a half hour.  Then Honey quit playing.  With one yank, she took off over the fence and Tony had to go running through the neighborhood to get her.  So much for giving Andrew that chore.
We had a special reason for attending noon Mass today.  St. Martin's is home to two saints in their altar.  Some time ago, the University of Louisville removed the remains to study and clean them.  Today, Saints Magnus and Bonosa were reinterred.  It was an amazing Mass, and I'm excited that Tony and Andrew got to take part as servers.
The Knights of Columbus provided a beautiful honor guard.
UofL found that, for all intents and purposes, the bones match up with exactly who the church has said they are.  The age-dating is right on.   Both saints were killed for their faith in 207 A.D. by Emperor Septimus Severus.  St. Magnus (below) was of African descent and was a centurion in the Roman army.

St. Bonosa was probably a nun, and her bones show evidence that she spent many hours on her knees.  She was also right handed.
The procession alone was amazing enough to have made the 2 1/2 hour Mass worthwhile.  Here's Tony helping Andrew relight his torch.

The Saints were on display the entire Mass.
After Mass, the local funeral home helped to reinter the remains back into the altar.
The most miraculous event of the weekend was that these two guys were perfect angels the entire 2+ hour Mass.  They got compliments from everyone around us.
