Final Weekend of Freedom

Although we often have good plans for the weekends, this past weekend was one we'd all been looking forward to. On Friday evening, the boys had their first ever sleep-over guest, Hunter. Hunter is soon to be their "first" first cousin, when his dad and Tony's sister get married this fall. He fall right between the boys, age-wise, and all three seem to have fun together. The boys stayed up late - 9:30 pm! Andrew and Hunter slept in the bunk beds, and Aidan slept in the extra bed in Sophie's room. The big boys were asleep right away, while Aidan and Sophie kept each other up for awhile. The boys were all awake around 5:30 Saturday morning and going strong. There was a request for chocolate chip pancakes. Andrew had TKD testing at 10, and Hunter went with him. After they left, Sophie fell asleep playing and watching cartoons. Apparently the sleepover fun was too much for her!
When testing was finished, we met up with Erin and took all the kids to lunch and then to the pool. It wasn't originally in the plans, but we had a great time and it reminded me of all the spontaneous things my friends and I used to beg our parents to let us do.

On Sunday, we had a special evening planned for the boys. The daughter of a good friend of mine was starring as "Annie" in Music Theatre Louisville's summer production. Because Madelyn goes to school at SAS and her mom teaches with us, we had a huge contingency of teachers and families from school with tickets to see the show.

Tony and I love to see shows at the Kentucky Center for the Arts, but Andrew has only been there twice and Aidan had never been. So, we dressed them up and started out at one of my favorite downtown pre-theater haunts - The Old Spaghetti Factory. The boys both deemed the food great, particularly the spumoni, but Aidan was disappointed that we didn't get to sit in the trolley car.

After we ate, we walked to the KCA to see the show. It was fabulous! It has to be one of my favorite musicals, made better by the fact that I was there with all my friends and that I knew the star. We've been to see Madelyn in lots of productions, but this is the best so far. After the show we hung around to greet her, because the boys both adore her. Of course, we got her autograph for when she's famous!

It's what you wear from ear to ear...

One of my all-time favorite first graders, all grown up!
We were so excited to get to see the show. Now it's back to school on Wednesday!
