We've been hit twice this week by winter weather, and it's not even winter yet. Sunday night we got about an inch or so of snow. Most of the schools called off, but we persevered so we didn't have to make up. On Wednesday they were predicting a major winter storm with snow and freezing rain. This morning we awoke to no snow - only ice. In fact, everything looked deceptively wet rather than frozen. Needless to say, we got a snow day. I wasn't very thrilled about losing a day (especially the week before Christmas break), but I made good use of the day. We slept in a little, and then Sophie, Andrew and I got up. I had to put some mail in the mailbox, so I literally shuffled/skated to the mailbox and took some pictures while I was out.
My rosebushes:

The street - not wet, frozen solid.
After I made it safely back inside, I started thawing out the van for tomorrow.
I pulled this out of the recycling bin for Tony and Paul:

I was able to get caught up on laundry, the kids cleaned the basement, and we took naps. Tony also made some yummy stew and we drank hot cocoa. The children are all in bed now - we are on a delay tomorrow, while everyone else is still off. I'm so glad to go back to school. Tomorrow is Christmas party day for my kiddos!
Just to get you in the holiday spirit, here's Sophie's rendition of Jingle Bells:
