Andrew turned 8 years old today. I can't believe it - especially because the older he gets, the older I'm getting! Here he is on his first birthday:

Andrew's first day of preschool:

Sunday we had the banquet for flag football. I asked Andrew if he was sad that the season was over. He said no, because next year he can play tackle. Be still, my heart! At least he's big - he's going to do more damage to the other kids and I'll have lots of apologizing to do. I don't know why he's decided to do such a goofy smile recently - I think it's because he likes to show off his missing front teeth.

We're celebrating Andrew's birthday with some of the family on Saturday. He's also celebrating a couple of other times throughout the week with various other family members. But, I'm a strong believer that the actual day you were born is important. So, this morning we ran by the bakery and got donuts for breakfast (You have no idea what a huge treat this is on a school morning. Usually we're lucky to get out the door fully dressed. We eat in the car and someone is usually crying. Sometimes it's me.) This evening, Tony and I fixed Andrew a special dinner and we went to church together. Our pastoral assistant got wind of it being his birthday (well, Andrew told him) and we got to sing to him after Mass. Then we came home and let Andrew blow out the candle in a huge cupcake.

Andrew has had his share of problems, but I think we've got him back on good ground. He's struggled with motor skills and with ADD. But he's having an awesome school year and loves his teacher. He's looking forward to his first communion in April. He is such a kind-hearted kid, especially when it comes to the elderly or those less fortunate than him. He doesn't see any shades of gray - everything is black and white and he has a definite sense of right, wrong, and when someone has been treated unjustly. Although he has been able to read since kindergarten, he has just realized that he can read for fun and has started devouring chapter books. He's so athletic and would rather be outside than anywhere. He has grown into such a nice young man and we are so proud of him.
Sophie, on the other hand...

She's using the orange icing as lipstick.
Here's today's Sophisms (just today, mind you):
1) She was wearing a raincoat with cupcakes on it. She got in the car today and said, "Mommy, I little Miss Muffin. The spider sat side me and scare me" (Little Miss Muffet...)
2) We had to watch the "bare nesesames" (Jungle Book)
3) At dinner, Sophie reminded us that she doesn't like "sour crap" (sauerkraut).
She's constantly keeping us laughing. It's hard to punish her. The other day she was mad at Tony and he said, "Oh, Sophie, that was a nice kiss". She responded, "I no kiss you, Daddy. I bite you."
Never a dull moment...
