Scout Sunday

On Saturday, we had parent observation at dance class. Sophie was all smiles as she showed us her dances.
I'm just glad she kept her clothes on this year.

Sophie just recovered from pink eye. While that's not fabulous news, something good did come out of it. When she had her eyes shut to get her antibiotic drops put in, Tony managed to yank off the rest of her scab/glue. Her scar is minimal and her head looks so much better! The scab was scary looking, and it had been hanging on for a month just because the glue was stuck so tight.

Today was Scout Sunday. We have such a wonderful cub scout pack with great leadership. Scout Sunday is something to be proud of - all the boys march in wearing their class A uniforms and sit together to celebrate Mass. The deacon even shared his own scouting experience, relating it to the rest of his homily. Our boys worked really hard with Tony and I to meet the qualifications to earn their religious medals, the "Light of Christ" award. Father Joe blessed all the medals before the were awarded.
The parents were invited to the altar to pin the medals on their sons.
Ugh - can't stand the way my face looks - but it's best shot I've got of the four of us. I'm thankful one of the parents grabbed my camera.
Here are my scouts after Mass:
When Mass was over, we had a wonderful banquet together. The boys were recognized again and received the other "pieces" of their awards.
We moved from the banquet into the gym, where the leaders received awards. Tony has gotten very involved in the scouting program and is actually starting the new role of assistant cubmaster.
After the leader awards, the 5th grade cub scouts were to have a ceremony of crossing over to become boy scouts. About that time, Sophie lost interest. It was about 2:30, it was nap time, and she was a crab. I carried her out of the gym screaming and wrestled with her in the lobby for a good 20 minutes, where she proceed to hit her head on a bench and earn a goose egg. I carried her kicking and screaming to car, where I sat another twenty minutes waiting on Tony and the boys to come out. This is how Sophie passed the time:
Look how red her little face is! Can you tell she's been throwing a tantrum? Lucky for me, the boys came out bearing big hunks of cheesecake. Hooray - that almost made my wrestling match worth it!

When we got home, the kids and I worked on Valentines. For the past several weeks we've been making heart shaped crayons for their class. They turned out pretty well, but taking the wrappers off the crayons was more work than I expected!
Hope you had a great weekend!
