Christmas Cookies

One family Christmas tradition at my Mom's house is making and decorating sugar cookies. My cousin April and I did it for years, and the first Christmas after we got married I dragged Tony into the deal. Of course, ever since Andrew was old enough to hold a cookie cutter, the kids have been in on the action. Although their aprons still fit, the chef hats are getting a little snug. Andrew's looks a little silly because he had it pulled all the way down on his head. He and Aidan were both very intent on their cookie cutting and very busy little elves. I didn't take any pictures of the icing of the cookies, because everything was sticky!
As much as I love baking cookies with the boys, I guess I'm still a little old-fashioned. Eventually, the boys will grow up and find someone to bake for them. But introducing Sophie to cookie baking was something else entirely. I hope we're starting a tradition that she can pass on to her children (and Andrew and Aidan's, I suppose, if they don't marry women who can cook!) Here she is with the rolling pin and her little piece of dough (before she put it in her mouth).

And cutting out her first cookie...with lots of help from Grandma so she didn't make too much mess or share too many germs with the cookie!
And of course, the best part of cookie baking is tasting them. Although Sophie has had pinches of various cookies and sweets, this was her first go at an entire cookie on her own. She was thrilled, and totally mad at me when I had to fish tje last huge hunk out of her mouth before she gagged. Another first in the picture below is her ponytail. I was quite proud that I was able to get it in without too much squirming or screaming. I'm going to try to upload a video of Sophie's cooking eating at the end of this post.
After a messy cooking experience, baths are a must. This picture is priceless, partially because of her ponytail-induced mohawk, but mostly because I see a lot of myself as a toddler (and Andrew as well) in Sophie here.
Christmas will be here in three days!
