Turning Two

As unbelieveable as it seems, Miss Sophie Rose turned two this morning. There was snow on the ground today, but nothing like the day she was born. If you don't remember, click here. We weren't even able to get her newborn pictures taken because the photographer couldn't make it to the hospital.
Poor Sophie hasn't been feeling well, and I was teaching class this evening, but I'm still a firm believer in celebrating ON your actual birthdate. So, even though we're having cake and presents Friday, Sophie followed a long standing Wright/Hinkle Providence tradition and celebrated with Hostess cupcakes. My best friend and I have February birthdays. We celebrated at school every year by eating cupcakes from the cafeteria junk food line. But I digress...
Sophie was very excited about her cupcake and adamant that no one else eat it.

She even sang to herself as we were singing to her. She's a big fan of Sprout, and likes to sing "Happy happy birthday to me!" and tell us "I two".

Yummy! Nothing like chocolate right before bedtime!
So, there will be lots more pictures this weekend. We're celebrating Sophie's birthday and Aidan's (long story for another post), as well as a big boy scout party.
Sophie has been such a blessing and has helped complete our little family. We can't imagine life without her, except to say that it must have been calmer. She's been speaking in complete sentences since November, and is too smart for her own good. She likes to tell the boys what to do, particularly by saying, "Aidan Michael! No, no!". She gets into mischeif that the boys never imagined - she's in my drawers, cabinets, and closets. She pulls books off shelves and dumps drawers of clean laundry into the hamper. She plays in the toilet and climbs in the tub fully clothed. She loves the dog and hates going to church. She loves to read, adores Caillou and Dora, and can't stand Bob the Builder. Sophie has an opinion about everything, and doesn't walk when she can dance.
Oddly enough, she can sing. And I mean really sing - we went to the Latin Mass recently and she followed the tune for the chant she'd never heard before, following the phrasing and melody perfectly. Of course, she was making up her own words which was completely embarrassing. She does the same thing at the regular Sunday Mass. The people around us find her entertaining.
Sophie is persistent and stubborn. One day, this will serve her well. Right now, it just drives me crazy.
Happy birthday to our baby bear!
