Hoosier Girls State 2012

Well, I've been in Terre Haute since last Thursday.  We're here until Saturday, but I thought I'd go ahead and post some (okay, many) pictures because we've such a wonderful week at Hoosier Girls State so far.  After a day and a half of setting up, the staff went out to dinner on Friday evening.  We had some yummy Mexican to celebrate a wedding shower as well as the start of the 71st session of Girls' State.
The staff worked all day Saturday and then the girls arrived on Sunday.  We've been going fast and furious ever since!

Getting into the HGS spirit at our staff party
My job as Dean of Girls is varied....I can fix the copier, the fax, and iron!
If you're ever backstage at Tilson Auditorium, do not stand here!

Clark County girls represent!  I'm looking nice and nasty with wet hair.  In my defense, I had just spent a chunk of the night at the ER with a sick young lady.
If ice cream is all of these things, it's not bad for you - right??
Even healthy ice cream won't keep you from weight gain if you partake of this Terre Haute specialty:
 Yummy!!!
Tuesday night is Veteran's Night.  It's always a beautiful night, but this year it was extra special.  A high school teacher from northern Indiana has been working on a project for many years.  His goal is to find all of the families of Indiana's Vietnam soldiers.  His students are assigned a family or two to research and then they create displays.  To date, he has found over 1300 of the close to 1600 soldiers.  The displays were amazing, and his presentation was so moving.

Wednesday was staff dress down day.  It was also the day that our unit president, secretary, and my mom came to visit!!!
Also on Wednesday, Joe Klein, a reporter for Time magazine and a well-known author, visited HGS.

Every year on Thursday, the Indiana State Police put on a static display for the girls with police officers from all different divisions.  The coolest thing was watching a Blackhawk helicopter land on the field.  The pictures speak for themselves!

The Indiana Court of Appeals comes to review a case at Girls' State through a program called "Appeals on Wheels".  This year, ISU and the Vigo County Bar Association hosted a lunch for the Appellate judges.  They wanted some representation from our organization, so those of us who weren't crazy busy were sent.  It was great meeting the appellate judges, attorneys and ISU staff.  We enjoyed a sit down lunch with real dishes, good conversation and good food.  I did discover I don't care for goat cheese.  We clean up okay, I think!

These are some of my favorite people in the whole wide world!!

As I told my kids on the phone tonight - I'll be home in two sleeps!
