Background disclaimer:
I'm not an impulse shopper, and I usually tell the boys no when they ask for toys and junk. But they have been asking for a pancake puff maker since they first saw the infomercial on Sprout. So when I ran into Walgreens for some mouthwash, I left with a pancake puff maker. I thought I'd share our opinion in case the reader would also like to spend $19.99.
The pancake puff maker is actually quite a quality product. It's a cast iron skillet and comes with the tools to put filling in the middle of your puffs. That's right - it's not just pancakes that can be made into round puffs. Brownies, cakes, meat, pizza, you name it and my children would like to try it.
It was actually surprisingly easy to use, but we learned two important lessons. First, when the directions say to only fill 3/4 full, they mean it. Otherwise, you get funky shaped puffs. Also, you should keep the heat setting on medium low. The puffs took longer to cook than I anticipated, but my muffin mix still tasted good when it was shaped like a ball.
