Acrostic Poems

Catholic Schools Week is coming up next week. It is one of my favorite parts of the year. We plan all kinds of fun activites and treats for the students. I've been on the committee each year since I've been teaching, and have chaired or co-chaired it maybe five or six times. I love the opportunity to celebrate and honor all the wonderful things about a Catholic education. One project we came up with this year was borrowed from another school. Each parent wrote and decorated an acrostic poem for each of their children. They will be displayed all throughout Catholic Schools Week and our Open House. Wonderful idea, right? Until I realized I would have to also write poems since I have two students living under my roof. Of course, the old adage about the shoemaker's kids going barefoot is true. The teacher's children will be turning in this particular project on the due date. Not because I procrastinated, but because I have been hemming and hawing over them for two weeks. I'm not very creative, and I loathe poetry writing. But I came up with some words, probed my mom's brain, and then poured over a dictionary. I am very proud of what I came up with! I took pictures and posted them below. I did add photographs of the boys' to their poems as well. The boys' poems turned out so well that I went ahead and wrote one for Sophie as well. I hope to have them framed and hung someplace when the week is over.
