The 24 hours from Friday morning to Saturday morning were about as jam-packed as we could make them. On Friday, Aidan's class got to visit kindergarten for the morning. While they were there, they painted and had a a food treat. Aidan got to sit at Andrew's table, which he thought was great (for a change). One perk of being a teacher is that I got to sneak in and take a couple pictures.

Aidan had a great time and can't wait to start kindergarten in the fall! We rushed home after school to get ready for Sophie's birthday party. Luckily, my mom had helped clean the house on Thursday and Tony spent Friday afternoon setting up the house. We planned on keeping it small, but I couldn't help comparing it to Andrew's first birthday. Our little house on Sherwood was packed with adults back then. For Sophie's first birthday, we invited mostly based on kids! There were 12 kids invited, all related except two neighbors. The kids were great, though. The boys played in the basement and the girls 'helped' Sophie. Here are some pictures before Sophie's friends arrived:

Although we tried to keep the party low-key, I couldn't resist buying a few decorations and special keepsakes. I bought a huge mylar balloon, and Sophie had a crown, bib, and birthday dress. She looked so cute!
Sophie's cake was the same type as what we ordered for the boys' first. Williams Bakery, my favorite local bakery and Saturday morning doughnut haunt, makes a phenomenal applesauce cake with caramel icing. YUM!!!!
Sophie says, "Bring on the cake!"

She was not a shy cake-eater. That's my girl!

She was not so great at opening gifts. She only wanted the tissue paper.

Ironically enough, Sophie was born in the middle of a winter storm and there was a huge one predicted for the night of her first birthday party. It didn't start until much later than predicted Friday night, and it kind of fizzled. But we still got maybe two inches or so out of the deal - enough for the boys to get out and run around.

Sophie also had her first snow ice cream. She wasn't too impressed. She much prefers cake!

Sophie has taken a couple of steps here and there on her own. I'm sure it won't be long before I'm posting videos of her walking all over the place!
