February Finally Ends!

It's ironic how the shortest month of the year always seems to last the longest, particularly this year. Everything that could go awry has this month, from the weather, to health, to plans. On Tuesday, Andrew woke up griping about a sore throat, but nothing else. Of course, I have classes on Tuesday evening and had papers to turn in for both. He wasn't running a fever, so I sent him on. Around 2:00, his teacher sent me a note saying that he was complaining about his ears. I asked her to have his temperature checked, and sure enough, it was 99.6. I asked him to tough it out until the end of the day, and we checked it again at 2:40. By then it was 100.6 and I knew I had to revamp my plans. Luckily, my mother in law was going to pick the kiddos up so I could go to class anyway. I ran to UofL, turned everything in and came home to take Andrew to the Urgent Care. Of course, he had strep. He had to stay home with Tony on Wednesday. So far, Aidan is still healthy and Sophie just has a runny nose, so we're holding our breath.

Friday evening, we had plans to meet a group of friends for pizza and bowling. Tamara and her family moved to South Carolina a while back, and she and Ben were in town for the weekend. We tried to get together when they were in town in October and it didn't work out, and we saw Tamara during Christmas but the boys didn't get to play with Ben. So we gathered up some friends and headed to Pizza King. Here's Andrew and Ben:

Here's Abigail holding the whole mess of boys:

Big surprise - we left Pizza King to go bowling only to find that all the lanes were occupied by leagues. Then we thought we'd try the Fun House, only to find that they recently had an electrical fire and were closed. After sitting with six cars in the Goodwill parking lot debating our next move, it was decided to call it a night. The kids were a little disappointed, so we made a detour through Graeter's and got ice cream on the way home. I tried a new flavor - bourbon ball. Not my favorite, and not as good as mom's real deal, but interesting nonetheless.

Saturday morning, the boys went to a theatre workshop at Providence. They acted out some stories, made masks and played games. Meanwhile, Sophie and I made it to two stores and home to put away groceries before going back to get them. I had to take this picture of her, even though it brings my parenting into question. Sophie's playpen is against the wall under the tv, and when a show comes on PBS that catches her attention, she'll stand in the corner and watch it. Too funny!

After Tony got home from working a few extra hours Saturday, we decided to head over to the German American club for some sauerkraut balls and music. Here's a couple of shots with Andrew and Sophie and Stephan.

We only stayed until about 8:00, but the boys had a ball dancing with each other and with me. They were so cute about asking "may I have this dance?". Andrew does a pretty good imitation polka. We also did the duck dance and the hokey pokey. A big draw for heading over there was that one of Tony and Stephan's mutual military friends was in town and he was there, along with a friend of Stephan's who is a big cat keeper at the zoo. Andrew and Tony love to talk to him about tigers.
This morning we headed to church and then to the boys' basketball game. It didn't quite go as planned either. The coach was tied up with something and left Tony in charge. Aidan decided that Tony was not the coach and that he wasn't playing, so I spent half the game in the van with Aidan fit-throwing.
Ahhh.....March. Is spring in the air??
