As many of you may know (or not), Aidan auditioned for a show with the Willow Tree Theatre in May. It's called "Lullaby for a Lonely Child" and was written by a local artist. It's an adorable show all about Noah's Ark, with lots of singing, dancing and jokes with a great message, plus it's short enough to hold children's attention. Aidan was cast as a turtle, and has three lines - which will totally steal the show, since he's the youngest and smallest cast member by about four years and a couple feet.
It was originally intended to be cast with children, but they were a few short at auditions. The director went looking for adults to help, and since I was planning to be at all the practices with Aidan anyway, I told him that I could dance and would be happy to be part of the ensemble. One thing led to another, and now I am playing the role of the skunk, with several lines of my own. More than I bargained for, but tons of fun.
At any rate, this theatre group, as they often are, is low budget. So we had to create our own animal costumes. The director wanted Aidan in a green button-up (think nerdy turtle). So, I had to make one for him. Here's the beginnings of the project:
It turned out fine, and I even added fake suspenders. As for my costume, I found an old dance outfit and mom added a skunk stripe and tail for me. We are performing at Providence High School's black box theater this weekend and next. Here are some pictures from our dress rehearsal:

Mommy and Aidan
Although my cousin and I ran a children's theatre group for about seven years, I hadn't actually been in a production since high school. Aidan and I have had so much fun, and it's been nice to spend time just the two of us, since Andrew often has alone time with Tony. Aidan has done a great job, and has been quite professional, so I'm hoping he'll want to try out again for something else.
Here's a link to a great article from the paper about the Willow Tree Theatre, and here's the event information if you're in town and can come. I'll post more about how the show went, as well as our church picnic later this weekend!
