Tuesday, we had a great field trip planned for Kindergarten and First Grade. It was free thanks to a grant. We were supposed to go see a play right after lunch. Lunchtime arrived, along with some great big storm clouds. Then the tornado sirens went off. We spent an hour sitting in the hallways with our heads covered. I, for one, was doing a lot of praying. Apparently there were a couple of sightings close to us, but I don't think there were any touchdowns. Our hallway full of babies (K-2) were troopers with no tears or meltdowns. I don't really think they understood the situation fully, plus they were missing their lunch and their field trip so they had other things to think about. In nine years of teaching, we've never had a "real" tornado drill. Only once in my own school career (high school) can I ever remember the need to duck and cover in the hall. Hope it doesn't happen again for a million years. Needless to say, the rest of the day was something of a big fail. Then we had to stay for parent teacher conferences. Today we repeated the whole thing, except minus the tornadoes. I am exhausted. Tomorrow the teachers have to head to Indy for a conference, which I would normally love but the prospect of leaving at 6:15 is less than exhilarating.
I was given two little pumpkins at school today, and when I walked in the door Sophie claimed one as her own. It's "mine punkin". She didn't let it go while watching tv, and when I tried to take her picture she kept leaning around me because I was blocking Calliou.
And, I am glad to say, the short little TKD video worked tonight. Enjoy!
I'm sure my fall break will be great...the week certainly shouldn't get any worse!

I'm surprised you didn't have a tornado drill in elementary school. We did and my class had to go into the boys' locker room. I remember thinking it looked liked the girls, but smelled bad. Glad you guys made it through safely. I hope your field trip gets rescheduled.
Nope...I only remember one actual tornado during the school day and I was in high school. I thought it was great that I got to sit in the hall and miss algebra class.
