Impressions...

Last week was such a busy week, but full of wonderful events! On Thursday evening, we were honored to join our friend Fr. Paul as he marked 10 years of priesthood. He celebrated a beautiful (and long) Latin Mass at St. Martin of Tours in Louisville. Tony served for him, which means I sat with the kiddos by ourselves. The boys were very good. Sophie, however, kept up a loud running commentary through the whole thing. She was in awe of the gorgeous Marian display, which we had to go see after Mass.
When Mass ended, we joined Fr. Paul and his family and friends for a reception. It was nice to see some people we hadn't seen in awhile, and the boys appreciated any chance to eat! They were also tickled to see that one of the priests we met while in D.C. had come down for Paul's celebration.
Sophie wouldn't keep her hat on and thus appropriately covering her head during Mass, but she was all about wearing it rudely at the dinner table.

Friday evening we went to the Speed Art Museum. They have evenings called "Art After Dark" with special admissions, music, snacks, drinks, and kids activities until a certain time, then it becomes adult-only. Here's Sophie, dressed for her first art opening. This evening was celebrating the opening of a Caravaggio exhibit. I know next to nothing about it, but here's the link to the Speed if you want more info. We were able to see "The Fortune Teller". Apparently it's extremely rare to see a Caravaggio outside of Italy. Tony informed me we actually saw a few while in Italy, but I can't remember. There were actors impersonating Caravaggio and his gyspy model roaming around, which was pretty funny.

More exciting to me was an exhibit that is leaving soon called, "Show me the Monet". All the pieces were Impressionists, and they were gorgeous. Although their attention span was short, the boys really enjoyed seeing the pictures and even Sophie liked pointing out things she saw in each painting.

After seeing the two temporary exhibits, we went to "Art Sparks", which is the children's room. Because this was mostly an adult evening, it was pretty empty. This kids had the place to themselves. Aidan loves art, and this whole evening was right up his alley.

After the children's room, we headed outside where they were doing "dotted" paintings with bingo daubers. The boys loved this, but I didn't let Sophie try because the paint was permanent.
When we finished painting, we got our free scoops of gelato (I still have yet to find anything that tastes close to what we had in Italy). Then we watched the flame throwers for a little while before taking tired kids home to bed.
I was really surprised that the art museum turned out to be such a huge hit, but I'm glad everyone had fun. We woke up Saturday morning to our usual crazy weekend routine. Since it was warm, I let Sophie go to dance tightless and in the tutu I made for her. She loved it!
We had to take our annual photo in front of the sign since it might be our last overlapping game day.
Just one more school day until summer vacation starts!
