Piano Lessons

I have to take the time to brag on Aidan.  I'm so proud of him!  He has been dabbling at my piano for over a year.  I started giving him some simple lessons myself in August, but he didn't really need me.  He knows how to read music on both staffs, as well as counting beats and rests thanks to our amazing music teacher at school.  He has been picking out songs by ear and making up his own melodies.  He also takes my big Reader's Digest Compilation books and plays the melody line of songs he likes.

At any rate, I decided that it was about time to get him some formal lessons.  I knew he would do well, but he blew me out of the water.  We left the first lesson with him playing chords and two-handed pieces.  He's amazing!  He definitely has some natural talent and he loves it, so I hope he sticks with it.  I'm so proud.

On another note, do you see where he's taking his first lesson?  At a baby grand.  It's a Steinway.  It was sitting right next to a second baby grand.  I took my first lesson in a storage room at school at an ancient upright.  Even when I took lessons in college at IUS, I never played on an instrument so beautiful.  Guess this is what my tuition paid for - so my seven year old could play an instrument he can't possibly appreciate yet.  Anywho, I know I was drooling when I walked in.  I really just wanted to play it myself.  That's true motherly sacrifice!
