I have a new acquisition in my class. It's the largest praying mantis I've ever seen. We were driving down by the river on Thursday evening and the thing just landed on my windshield. And stayed. I remarked off-handedly about how cool it would be in my classroom if it hung on all the way home. After several blocks, I made Tony pull into the salon where I the boys and I go and I ran inside. They gave me a cup and a shower cap to catch the bug without blinking an eye or making comments about how crazy I was. (Tony made the all the comments - but he was good-natured enough to stop for me and then take us to SAS to put it in the insect hut I have. Friday morning, Andrew and Wyatt (his friend) and I looked on the internet. Turns out the silly things eat other bugs. I refused to go bug hunting, and figured I'd just let it go that afternoon. It turned out to be such a big hit with my class and with the boys that I found myself at the pet store buying dead cricket parts. I hope it's still alive when I get to school Sunday!
Friday was a Holy Day and (being the good wife that I am) I took the boys to St. Martin's for the Latin Mass Tony was serving with Fr. Paul, even though I had already been to church that morning with my class. I even covered my head like a good Catholic girl. Joe was impressed with how submissive I looked, but claimed he knew better. Andrew was actually very good during Mass, and was fascinated with the "smells and bells" as well as with the Knights of Columbus members and their saber arch.
Today I went for orientation at Spalding. It's going to be a tough doctoral program, and it may kill me, but they assure me that if I keep at it I'll be finished (dissertation and all) three years from now. The weather was beautiful today, so we spent a little of the evening in the backyard.
