On Holy Saturday, we were supposed to be very busy with dance, baseball pictures, and ball games. Although I hate all this rain, it has served one good purpose - no ball game on Saturday. Since I went to the grocery Friday, this cleared all of Saturday afternoon for Easter preparations. We started with the lunch of champions - White Castles - so I didn't have to cook or do dishes. I started making jello salads and hard boiling eggs. Then everyone took naps in anticipation of a late night. After we got up, we started coloring eggs. I am the only one in my house who eats hard boiled eggs, so I get pretty excited around Easter time. I never just boil them for myself (although I don't know why - they're easy enough). We do it the easy, old-fashioned way - no kits for us! Just vinegar, hot water and food coloring. It's amazing the change a year can bring. Both boys did all their eggs on their own with no mess and minimal dyed fingers.

Sophie also got into the egg dyeing. She dropped her eggs in the cup with some force, usually cracking them and splattering color. It didn't matter to her - she was having fun! I just noticed the death grip I have on her right arm. She kept trying to grab the mugs of food coloring to see what was inside.

Here's a dozen of the dozen-an- a-half finished product - quite beautiful, and very delicious.
After cooking and baths, we got dressed to go to the Easter Vigil. All of us clean up very nicely. I especially loved Sophie's dress that Mom found and the boys' hats from Aunt Connie. Sophie's dress is cute on it's own, but keep looking for the pictures of her in the jacket, hat and gloves.
So snazzy!

I have two more good pictures of us in our church clothes Holy Saturday night, but the website is not cooperating so I'll just put them at the beginning of the next post. We headed out in the rain for Easter Vigil service, which started at 8:30. I love this Mass - starting in darkness and lighting candles all the way down the aisle. Just beautiful! Mass lasted a little over two hours and all three kids were angels through the whole thing. I'm not joking - I couldn't beleive it either. And, they all stayed awake the whole time. Of course, Aidan and Andrew knew from experience that there's always a big reception to welcome the newly baptized right after Mass so they were looking forward to cake and punch.
We came home from Mass, put the kids to bed, got the Easter baskets and eggs out, ate a hot cross bun, and headed to bed ourselves.
Alleluia!
