Last semester, I took completed an independent study with the director of the Kentucky Autism Training Center. I wrote a literature review about students with autism and their literacy learning. It should eventually be published, but a second contingency of my grade was that I would present the research at a conference. So, the day finally arrived and Mom, Sophie and I trekked off to the Ohio Center for Autism and Low Incidence Conference in Columbus, Ohio. When we arrived, we got a "guest" pass for Mom for the exhibit hall, so she and Sophie were able to walk around with me before my presentation. Here I am with my research display - I don't look too horribly sick, I guess.

OCALI conference
I've got my posts slightly out of order. The post before this was about the weekend wedding. Before I write this post, a little background is in order. Last Wednesday, everyone in my house, all our relatives, the babysitter, and all the children at the sitter had the stomach virus. On Thursday, I was due to drive to Columbus, Ohio. Mom was going to ride with me anyway, but I woke up not feeling so hot myself. She drove us, and Sophie had to come along for the ride because the sitter was still ill.

Sophie really enjoyed wandering through the exhibit all and testing out all the toys and adaptive devices for children who learn differently. She made good friends with the smart board display.
So glad to have this event crossed off my to-do list as well!
